Detailing Products on the Call Report

Product detailing provides a way for users to select which products and detail topics are discussed in a call. This enables users to record key information about their activities during a call. Product detailing information may also be important for maintaining compliance with regulations and conducting audits.
For example, Sarah Jones provides information about Cholecap benefits and contraindications to Dr. Ackerman during a call. To capture this information on the call report, Sarah selects Cholecap in the detailing priority section.
Ensure initial configuration is complete to use this functionality.
Using Product Detailing
Users indicate which product was detailed and in which order using the check boxes. By default, one product detail is required to save a call. Users can control which products display by default (and are available immediately to select) in the detailing priority section on the call report by selecting them as a Favorite (starred) in My Setup. Products not marked as favorites in My Setup can still be added to the call by clicking Add Other in the detailing priority section to open the detail selector, then searching for and selecting the product.
The list of available products and detail topics is based on selections made in the user’s My Setup page, any product restrictions specified at the account level, and any allowed products stored in TSF. When a user has access to detail groups and detail topics, the product detailing section organizes products and topics by detail group.
Viewing Detail Groups
When Detail Groups are enabled, products without a detail group display first, under the Common heading. Detail groups categories display next, in ascending order based on the Display_Order_vod field on the Product_vod object. If display order is not enabled or a display order is not specified, detail groups are sorted alphabetically in ascending order.
Within each detail group, detail topics display before detail products. Like detail groups, detail topics and products display based on the Display_Order_vod field in the Product Catalog, in ascending order. Detail topics and products without a display order are sorted alphabetically in ascending order.
For more information on detail groups and topics, see Using Detail Groups and Detail Topics.
Defining Product Detail and Discussion Behavior
Admins can define the behavior of product details and discussions for users with only one product available for detailing. This feature provides flexibility and cross-platform consistency for users who focus on a single product.
This feature is enabled by default with the Product_Detail_Discussion_Default_vod Veeva Setting value = 1. Update it by selecting one of the other settings as described below:
Setting |
Number of Products |
Behavior |
---|---|---|
0 |
Any |
Product detail is not selected by default Example: Sarah Jones is assigned only to Cholecap. When Sarah creates a call report, the product detail is not selected. |
1 (default) |
1 |
Example: Sarah Jones is assigned only to Cholecap. When Sarah creates a call report, Cholecap is automatically selected in the detailing priority section. A product discussion record is not automatically created against the selected Cholecap detail. |
2 |
1 |
Example: Sarah Jones is assigned only to Cholecap. When Sarah creates a call report, Cholecap is selected in the detailing priority section, the product discussion record is created automatically, and the product field is pre-populated with the CLM presentation’s product. |
Considerations
- Product details and discussion do not default for calls in a planned state until the user edits the call report
- If the user has more than one detailing option, defaulting does not occur. This includes users assigned to a single product and multiple detail groups associated to that product.
Optional Product Detailing Configuration
The behavior of the product detailing section can be changed by adding section signals to the section header.
Section Signal | Description |
---|---|
--rd |
|
--sd --so |
|
--htp |
The territory on the current and active cycle plan must also match the territory on the call. The Territory field must be on the Call2_vod page layout. |
When the –sd section signal is on the Call2_vod page layout and a signature is captured, users cannot display CLM from the call report or associate the call report with unassigned presentations. For group calls with unique activities, users cannot select accounts who already signed for details when displaying CLM, or associate unassigned presentations with accounts who already signed for details. To display CLM or associate the call report with an unassigned presentation, clear the existing signature.
To add a section signal to the section header:
- Select the appropriate page layout on the Call2_vod object.
- Select the Properties icon for the Product Detailing section.
- Add the section signal at the end of the section label.
