Retaining GPS Coordinates When Modifying an Address

To avoid losing GPS coordinate information for their accounts’ addresses, users can prevent GPS coordinates from being reset when modifying fields on Address_vod records. This eliminates the need to re-enter GPS coordinates after editing existing records.

For example, Sarah Jones notices Clinton Ackerman's address is misspelled. She modifies the street name to the correct spelling and selects Save. The record is modified but the GPS coordinates to Clinton Ackerman's office remain the same.

Configuring GPS Coordinate Retention

Ensure initial configuration is complete before enabling this functionality.

To enable this feature:

  1. Grant users and admins the following permissions: 

    Object OLS Record Type Fields FLS

    Address_vod

    n/a

    n/a

    Clear_GPS_Coordinates_vod

    edit
  2. Place the Clear_GPS_Coordinates_vod field on the appropriate Address_vod page layouts.

Using GPS Coordinate Retention

If the Clear_GPS_Coordinates_vod check box is deselected, the GPS coordinates are maintained when records are edited.

If the Clear_GPS_Coordinates_vod check box is selected, the GPS coordinates are cleared when records are edited.

The Clear_GPS_Coordinates_vod check box resets to the default value of deselected after a single edit to an address record. Users must ensure the check box is not selected if they want to maintain GPS coordinates after editing fields.
