Using the Medical Identifier Field

The Account_Identifier_vod field on the Account object stores and displays any account identifier needed by users, for example sales teams. Medical users, however, often require different information displayed in this field to help them identify an account or provide additional context for an account. Admins can configure the Medical_Identifier_vod field on the Account object to store and display additional information about an account for medical users.

When enabled, the medical identifier information replaces the account identifier wherever the account identifier displays by default.

Customers are responsible for populating the medical identifier field and can use any value. The field value can be updated by any means, for example, manually, through data loading, or using a trigger.

Enabling the Medical Identifier Field

To enable the Medical Identifier field for users:

  1. Ensure each user’s User_Type_vod is Medical_vod.
  2. Grant FLS read permission to the Medical_Identifier_vod field on the Account object.
  3. Grant FLS read permission to the To_Medical_Identifier_vod field on the Affiliation_vod object.

Veeva Messages and Settings are respected and not overridden.

Using the Medical Identifier Field
