Managing Veeva CRM Installations with Mobile Device Management (MDM)

Veeva recommends migrating orgs to the app store version of the application. Migration requires uninstalling the existing application and performing a new initial sync once the new application is installed.

Migration steps depend on the following conditions:

  • Does the company use an MDM?
  • If so, does an MDM currently manage the application?

All migration methods require end-users to incrementally sync before performing the migration. This prevents data loss by synching local data to the Browser platform.

After all migration methods, end-users should incrementally sync to reobtain their data.

When managing the Veeva CRM app via MDM, customers should upgrade the app rather than delete and reinstall. If the app must be deleted and reinstalled, customers must perform an incremental sync first to prevent any loss of data.

Migrating to an MDM When the Existing Application is Not Managed by an MDM

The migration process requires end-users to perform the following actions:

  1. Perform an incremental sync.
  2. Manually delete the legacy application.
  3. Install the new version via MDM.
  4. Login and sync.

Migrating to an MDM When the Existing Application is Already Managed by MDM

The migration process requires end-users to perform the following actions:

  1. Perform an incremental sync.
  2. Install the new version from the MDM.
  3. Login and sync.

After migration, customer IT departments decide a date to uninstall the legacy version of the Veeva CRM app, ensuring only the new version of the application is available to end-users. This requires end-users to have appropriate permission to delete the legacy application.

Migrating Without an MDM

To migrate to a directly downloaded version of the application, end-users must perform the following actions:

  1. Perform an incremental sync.
  2. Manually delete the legacy application.
  3. Navigate to the Veeva CRM application in the App Store.
  4. Download the application.
  5. Login and sync.

Removing Access to the Install CRM for iPad Widget Online

Admins should remove the Install CRM for iPad widget on the Browser platform when deploying the App Store version of the application. This prevents end-users from manually installing other versions of the application.

To remove the Install CRM for iPad widget:

  1. Navigate to Customize > Home > Home Page Layouts.
  2. Edit the appropriate home page layout.
  3. Navigate to the Select Narrow Components to Show section.
  4. Deselect the iRep check box.
  5. Select Next.
  6. Save and clear the Veeva Cache.
